is an I.P.A.B. (Istituto Pubblico
di Assistenza e Beneficienza Public
Body for Assistance and Charity).
The IPAB in Italy are public bodies
existing since Middle Ages, in
form of confraternities and other
ecclesial and religious bodies.
With the Crispis Act n 6972 of
1890, the IPAB was instituted
and became part of the state administration,
even if they kept their autonomy.
The San Michele Institute of Rome was constituted by the Royal Decree n 1353 of 7th May, 1928.
